Alexandra enjoyed the rush of air immensely, but enjoyed the ground even more, for it brought her close to him yet again. Thought she couldn't help herself when he added such a teasing phrase. She raised an eyebrow at him as she spoke, all the while keeping her feet in time with his. " Oh yes, I'm afraid that I am deeply frightened by a little jump! " she said in a similar hushed tone and a smile as she looked into those eyes of his, watching the joy that had washed over them, then silently wondered if the same had happened to her own.

Marcus smiled at her " then i am sorry for scaring you so." He made sure that no one was watching although everyone seemed to intrested in talking or kissing. He looked at her for a moment then glanced at the crowd and leaned down and kissed her softly. He continued to dance and to anyone else it would just look like he was whispering something in her ear since his hair covered their faces from view. He pulled away after and moment and looked at her.

Alexandra had been watching his cautious eyes sweep the room, wondering why. She got her answer soon enough though, when her eyes drifted down to his lips, which carefully settled onto her own. Admittedly she was taken off guard by the swift action, but didn't protest against it as they danced, though she didn't dare to return it more than slightly, knowing that Alfred was probably watching. She felt him pull back and with a sigh she did as well, though a bright smile illuminated her face now. Alex licked her lips a moment, glancing over her shoulder to see that her brother Tom held Alfred securely. " Might I ask the reason for such a wonderful gift? " she asked with that witful tongue of hers.

Marcus looked at her and smiled " a wonderful gift in return for the wonderful gift you have given me." He said. He knew this dance was a long one and that everyone would be quite tired after it was over. He pulled her a bit closer and continued to dance with her.

The extra support was a welcomed gift, for Alexandra had noticed that the clicking of everyone's shoes on the floor had become a little less sharp. All the same she didn't mind as sh held herself against Marcus with a smile as she continued the footsteps along. " I am glad that you have enjoyed it Mr. Marcus, but tell me, when will we meet again? " she asked, her soft voice flying almost directly into his ear as he held her close to him.

Marcus closed his eyes and listened to the sounds of shoes soften to almost nothing. He smiled at her " tommorow." He thought for a moment " tommorow at midday meet me by the brook in the forest." He said to her.

Alexandra sighed as the music now ended in the same flourish that it had begun. She parted from Marcus just enough to curtsy before him and smiled graciously. " Than I shall wait for mid day tomorrow. " she told him glancing up through her eye lashes as she listened to the sway of fabric as the gentlemen led their partners off of the dance floor, chatting and searching for another while the musicians gathered their breath and sheets.

Marcus led her off the dance floor and smiled " Then I shall be eagerly awaiting your arrival." He bowed to her then turned and accepted the and of another female whom had asked him to dance. He conversed with her though he did not want to and would have preferred to continue conversing with Alex.

Alexandra curtsied to him again, watching as the other woman asked him to dance, something a woman rarely did. Never the less Alexandra knew that now it didn't really matter who else he danced with. He had sparked something within her and she was going to hold onto it, at mid day tomorrow. Now however, she took the liberty of going over to her father and Tom, who were both sitting down, she did the same and Alfred jumped up into her lap as she rested her again tired feet.

Marcus led the woman into the middle of the room and again began to dance. He finished dancing with her and bowed to her then walked back over to the secluded spot he had chosen. He knew the only reason it was secluded was because people rarely looked over here but if someone did they would be sure to notice.

While Elizabeth sat, her father quietly took her hand. " What was that dance my dear? " he asked. Alexandra turned her head toward his slightly, a bit of worry showing on her face as she silently scanned the room with her eyes, spotting Marcus in a dark, rather secluded spot. She flashed him a look quickly before answering her father. " I simply wanted to enjoy a young dance. " she said, only to have her father spit back about Marcus. She had nothing really to say, for she couldn't stand up, she could only listen as her father lectured her about marrying well, the status of their family, all the things she had heard time and time again.

Marcus looked at her and smiled. He watched her father lecture her and winced somewhat. He had not meant for her to get in trouble with that dance but it seemed that he had managed to do just that. He sighed softly and shook his head.

By now Alexandra's jaw was set, her lips tightly closed as she listened to her father go on and on. She caught another glimpse of Marcus, still in his secluded spot and she almost had the nerve to stand up, after Setting Alfred off her lap of course, and simply march to him to get away from her father. Luckily enough she didn't have to though, another man had the guts to come ask her to dance, naturally she complied immediately and Alfred jumped from her lap as she stood to take his hand. It wouldn't take more than a good look to see the anger in Alex now, her body was rigid with it, her voice a bit forced when she spoke to the man who she now danced with, looking about the room and not really focusing on the dance steps, only thinking about her father's words. 'I must accept your suitor, if I don't I can cut you off' oh how the words angered her! How dare he threaten to leave her, his only daughter cut off from inheritance!

Marcus watched her then walked over to her father. He bowed to him then straightened and looked at him " I wish to marry your daughter." He said to him. He hoped that her father would not be so upset if he knew who he was. He watched him for a moment waiting for him to say something.

Even in the driest of droughts, wild fire couldn't have spread more quickly than that one simple phrase. For it was that one phrase which had struck deeply into the heart of any suitor present, but in no heart could the phrase have raised more anger than in that of Fredrick Thomas Barstow. The father had been already angered by his daughter, who had managed to evade his words by accepting a dance. Then this small, flaming phrase had lit him and caused him to explode like a firework.
In an instant the tall man was standing, the room had gone silent except for the growing whispers and taunts. Fredrick glared down at the boy, trying to control the anger which had turned his face red. " How dare you propose such a thing! Here, now! " his efforts were failing him. " You, you! " he screamed shaking a finger at him while his mind groped for words. " You have interrupted this ball, in honor of a religious holiday, proposed to marry my only daughter when you haven't even been given the right to court her! How dare you! " he screamed again, words seeming to have left him as rage had replaced them. He now continued to huff as his last bit of sanity brought up words. " What do you have to say for yourself. " he stated sharply. If all the men's eyes were on Mr. Barstow, then all the women's eyes were on the Gran Duchess Alexandra.
The young woman's face was still etched with anger from earlier, for she hadn't the mind to erase it, but all the color had seemed to drain from her face. How could he have done such a thing? Within an instant fight or flight instincts had come into play, Alex was already tired as it was, not to mention the previous conversation with her father, so flight it was. Alexandra broke the pose with her partner completely, giving a brisk curtsy before turning to the door. Alfred was there to follow her, having read her mind. So the two then headed for the door, people parting the way as she walked so briskly out, her two friends joining the way and following her as she rushed outside. The group seemed to close gates after the girls and the fox all ears bending forward with anticipation of the words to come from the boy who was now surrounded by people, all staring at him.
