Marcus looked at her with a coy smile " Your not polite and ladylike around me." He teased her. He knew that they would need to go back soon for she would be missed and he might possibly be missed by his lady friends. He didn't really like them or like calling them that but he had nothing else to call them...nothing proper anyways.

Alexandra smiled, looking down at her gloved hands. " You are right about that, but then again you aren't exactly and ordinary man. " she said, referring to his hair, if not his entire being. She did hope though that his entrance might set everyone off of her for a moment, for she hoped for a moments peace before she must descend into the halls of giggling gold diggers, even the girls were like that sometimes and it frankly just annoyed her.

Marcus nodded then rose " I must get back the women will be missing me." He said to her. He sighed softly then kissed her on the cheek. He looked at her for a few moments then turned and started to leave.

Alexandra blushed at the action, having not expected it at all as she had been looking into the fire. " I shall thank you for that later.,Mr. Marcus, with a dance. " she said a smile replacing the tired expression which she had been wearing since her entrance into the library.

Marcus smiled at her then reentered the ballroom. He went back to where he had been standing and almost immediatly a blond girl that looked to be only 17 or 18 came and asked him to dance. He of course accepted and led her onto the dance floor. He held her at a respectable distance and nodded and smiled politely to her whilst they danced.

After a few minutes to herself, and a quick rub of the feet Alexandra reentered the ballroom, smiling to all as Alfred trotted through toward her. The little fox seemed to attach himself to her side as she walked gracefully through the people, smiling and greeting all those who she hadn't had a chance to dance with. But she had a purpose as she made her way to the orchestra, and once she got there she whispered her request to the maestro while the musicians played still. Then she smiled, walking away with Alfred into a small group of her friends who were all chatting away from the men about certain affairs of the war.

Marcus watched her for a few moments then sighed softly. He looked over at her father then looked around for her brother. He spotted him flirting with some of the younger females attending and rolled his eyes. He smiled at a young woman that passed him and waved but said nothing.

Alexandra smiled as she too took a moment to scan the room, finding her brother chatting with some young ladies, it was rather funny, for he seemed to be embarrassing himself. Giving her slight apologies to her two friends and bidding them to keep up their conversation in her absence. Then she made her way through the sidelines, doing her best to go fast to avoid being asked to dance. It worked for once because her brother saved her and himself by rushing toward her and mumbling something about looking for her, just in time to block off another man who wanted a dance. With that her little brother lead her back to her friends, while Alex whispered into his ear for a moment, giving quick instructions before she went back to her friends, who had now moved on to questioning the worth of the generals, Alexandra only smiled and joined in the shunned conversation.
Mean while, little Tom did as he was asked and walked his way over to Marcus, bowing slightly to him before stepping closer to speak in a hushed voice, " My sister Sir, would like you to ask her to dance after the maestro makes an announcement. " he said then looked up and waited for confirmation.

Marus had watched this movement and chuckled slightly at the cleverness of Tom. He then saw the boy make his way over to him and listened to his question. He smiled then nodded and patted the boys head. He knew this was not the best thing to do but it seemed like it would be fun.

Alexandra smiled and glanced out of the corner of her eye as her little brother, who thought himself to be quite a man, was patted on the head. The boy nodded his head politely to the man then turned and went back to his sister, who thanked him kindly and promised that she would make it up to him. It was all she had time to do before the music finished off and the maestro turned to the group of people, who waited expectantly. " Ladies and gentlemen, by request of Gran Duchess Alexandra, I welcome you all to dance the Volte to one of my new creations. " he said, bowing to the group and turning to the players who now ruffled their papers to find the new unexpected piece.
Meanwhile, many of the girls were now flirting like mad, knowing that the Volte was indeed a dance for couples, one of few in which you got to be held close, not to mention it was so exciting to be hoisted up into the air! Alexandra simply smiled, looking toward Marcus while her friends slightly glared at her.

Marcus smiled softly to himself then walked over to Alex. He bowed to her friends then looked at her " Would you mind sharing this dance with me my lady." He asked her. He could see the jealous glares her friends and the rest of the ladies in the ballroom were giving her. He also noticed the men glaring at him for taking the prettiest girl in the room. He looked at Alex and awaited her answer.

Watching Marcus and the rest of the room with a prideful smile Alex gracefully extended her gloved hand out to him. " It would be a pleasure Mr. Nightrider. " she said smiling to her friends who had stopped their robust conversation and started chattering to themselves about something meaningless before they knew the two were out of ear shoot. Alfred didn't seem to enjoy this little display but Tomas had him by his ribbon collar before he could do anything. Many of the other girls were now deathly jealous of Alexandra and several complained that he had only asked because the house was hers. All the same they flirted to capture the remaining suitors and headed out onto the floor as the lively music started up with a grand flourish.

Marcus smiled as the dancing started and led her into the middle of the floor. He pulled her close to him and started to dance. He kept his hands on her waist and breathed in the smell of her perfume. He sighed softly then lifted his head and looked at her " I thank you for allowing me this dance." He told her in a quiet voice.

Alexandra marveled at him, the way he held her wasn't commanding as some of the other's had been, but it was strong all the same, as if inviting her in to a haven. It was that haven which she now danced, her arm carefully draped over his shoulder, the other placed in his hand, holding it but not grasping it tightly. It was wonderful, for just as he had taken in her scent she took in his, a sharp contrast the the delicate perfume she had put on that evening. His cooing words only made it better as the winding, long song continued on and on burst of the violin's top strings giving the signal for the lifting up of the ladies. Alexandra only smiled as she settled her hands onto his shoulders.

Marcus smiled nad danced with her then lifted her gracefully into the air and settled her back on her feet after a small turn. He smiled at her and pulled her close again " did that scare you too much." He said to her. He was only teasing but it was nice having her so close to him.
