She quickly moved herself into the kitchen, where once again she immersed herself into the process of making a delicious breakfast for the master. Though at the same time she wanted to make him healthier, she also wanted to make him feel better, for he seemed to be in a permanent gloom. So, as Elizabeth set herself to the deed she pulled out every stop. Instead, she sliced thick pieces of ham and set them to cook, then she cut of several lighter fruits that she had found at the market. To add to that she had started handmade biscuits onto the fire, which she later placed next to a pile of fluffy, buttery eggs. Elizabeth had a moment of time though, before everything else was done and proceeded to make the table on the terrace, with fresh linens and clean silverware. Then she placed all of her makings onto the table, and finished it with a flower from the garden. Once everything else was done, she again went to the master study and knocked on the door. " Sir, your breakfast is ready on the back terrace. " she said then stepped away from the door to return to the kitchen.

Alex looked up at her when she knocked. He was suprised that she did that. He nodded and stood up from the back of the desk. He walked to the back terrace. When he got there, he saw it was set for one. He shook his head and walked down to the kitchen. "Please join me." he said to her.

Elizabeth was standing near by, in case he had a want for something more. But she shook her head, " I couldn't Sir, I am but the maid. It would be wrong of me to eat with my master. " she said. The man truely seemed as if he had never had a maid in his life, but perhaps it was not his unfamiliarness with the help, but simply the fact that he was lonely. Elizabeth thought back to her first night here, when she had questioned him of his wife. He had become so angry then, perhaps it was only company that he wanted.

Alex shook his head. "I don't care if you are the maid or the queen. I just want some company. There is enough food for two of us." he said.

Elizabeth nodded, " Very well Sir, I shall sit with you. " she said. She turned her back for only a moment to reach for another chair, which she placed on the other side of the table, then she quietly seated herself and folded her hands into her lap. " Is there anything you wish to speak of Sir? " she asked, not wanting to talk about anything that would make him further upset.

He started to eat some of his eggs. "Tell me about yourself." he said as he took a drink of his water.

She thought for a moment, her life was indeed a tale to be told, but where to begin? There were the tales of her childhood, her father and her mother, her pets and her siblings, so much of a story, in bits and pieces. " Where would you like me to begin Sir? " she asked, not knowing just what he would like to know. Perhaps of her personality or her name, where she was born or how she learned to ride astride a horse.

He smiled. "All of it. You tell me of yours and I will tell you of mine." he said.

Elizabeth sighed, biting her lip slightly before she began. " Well Sir, my mother and father were farmers, as my brother is now. " she said, then thought again on what to say. " They were hard working people, and raised myself and my 3 brother's to be the same, to strive for what we wanted to do at all times. They said to never let money be an issue, but to never take it if it was not earned. For you see, my parents hated charity, they felt that everything you own, you should earn, for then when you use something you may use it with the satisfaction that it is yours. Now my brothers, they are better off than me I should say, on is a lawman, like yourself, the other a farmer, the third however may only lay claim to a grave I'm afraid. " she said pausing to look at the master to see if she was boring him. At this pause, she took a moment to look about her at the garden, there were plenty of flowers, though none of them seemed to be quite cared for. Perhaps she would tend to that later, when her homely duties were done.

Alex was not bored. "Go on. Sounds about like myself." he said to her. "HEre have some this ham." he said as he held it out to her.

Elizabeth looked away for a moment, acting as if she was again deep in thought about her story, and there for refused the ham that he had offered. " Our farm was not large by any means, far smaller than this estate I suppose. But we did have many animals, several horses and two cows, chickens and even sheep at some point. Oh us children, even I being the youngest, had to be up early in the morning to tend to all of them. First the cows, then the chickens so that we may have breakfast. I remember those morning as if they were yesterday. " she said a bright smile coming to her face as she thought back, now she looked out past the gardens, over the moors and past the great sea where she had grown up. " I would be woken up rather roughly by my brother, who thought jumping on me was the best way to wake up. Then I would dress quickly and scurry out to the barn through the dewy grass. The cows a would be mooing their good morning's with sleepy eyes as my brother and I sat at our stools. Then he would take the buckets into mother while I gathered the eggs from the hens. After that I would go into the kitchen to help mother with everyone's breakfast while the boys tended to the feedings. Father would be done fixing what ever it was he was fixing by then and everyone would come into breakfast as loud as they possibly could. " she said a light laugh coming over her as she remembered being chased around the kitchen for the last piece of hot cake.

He nodded his head. "I was born on the other side of the blanket. My mother was a maid and my father was a Duke. He did not want me in the way of his future marriage. He took me on the other side of the city. I grew up on the streets. I been in many street fights and crimes. I was finally caught and made a deal with the past lawman that I would take his post when he died." he said.

Elizabeth's laugh quickly died as she heard his story. " That must have been terrible for you, though I do commend you on being able to deal your way into a better life. " she said, then looking down, ashamed of herself for talking to freely, giving her opinion on her master in front of him was no way for a maid to act.

He pushed his plate away. "You can speak freely to me." he said "I guess so but it was not what I had in mind for my life. I wanted to have my own horse farm not punish people. I wanted to have a wife and children but with this job I am not at home. No woman would marry a man like me." he said as he stood up. HE walked over to the railing and looked out. "Anytime you want to see your family, just tell me and go."

She continued to look down, not because she was ashamed, but because she wanted to hide the tears coming to her eyes. " I'm afraid I wouldn't want to visit a graveyard Sir. " Most of her family had died on the ship ride over, her mother because she was pregnant, her father out of greif. Her brother's had gotten food poisoning, so had Elizabeth but a man had spared her life with a medicine. Quickly though, before the master would see her weakness she wipped away the tears in her eyes.
