Alex walked up to his front door to his house. He unlocked his door and walked in. He locked it back. He took off his outer cloak and hung it up. He walked to his study and lit a fire in the fire place. He walked to the kitchen and started to make him something fast to eat. He looked around at the big house and wondered if he would find anyone to share it and his money with. He finished with his supper and washed up the dishes. He walked to his study warmed by the fire. He sat down at his desk and started to go over what he was doing tomorrow.

With her bag of belongings over her shoulder and her chin held high Elizabeth continued to follow the man from a distance down the road. While in town she had talked to many people about him, all of which said that he was a lonely man, who was in need of a good servant.
She herself was in need of a good job, and had followed him to his house to see what his means might be. When she had seen the house, it seemed that the man was certainly well off, definitely a lawman. But she cursed herself silently for staring, she had a purpose here as was not getting on with it. Her feet crunched lightly on the gravel as she made her way up the same path that the man had walked, coming to the front door and laying her pack on the ground behind her.
With that done she took a deep breath, raised her hand to the door and gave a strong yet gentle knock on the wood, then stood straight and tall, hoping that someone would answer.

Alec stood up from his chair and looked at the clock. He shook his head as he walked to the door. He opened it up and looked around. He saw the girl infront of him. "Yes, may I help you?" he asked her. He did not think about her being there for him but he was going to help her find her way back from the place she came from.

She smiled warmly as she saw the man's tired face, though due to her past Elizabeth did not see him as a suitor. " Yes, I was wondering if you are in need of a maid. " she asked, not bothering with small talk before getting straight to the point of her visit. After all, she had nothing more to do, all she needed was a job.

Alex looked her up and down. He then looked at his house. "I guess, I do." he said as he moved out of the door. "Come in." he said as he waited on her to come in.

Elizabeth responded with only a quick nod before dipping to pick up her pack. At the moment it was filled with only a few belongings, for she did not need many. Only a few set of clothes, three maid outfits, blankets, grooming tools and only a few other things that had sentimental value. So she took her light pack and entered the house, turning just by the door. " Might I ask where the servant's quarters are? " she asked, wanting to get settled in before nightfall.

He closed the door after her and locked it. "I have no servant's quarters. Just go upstairs and pick out a bedroom. Mine is on third floor. As long as you stay away from there, you will be okay. " he said as he turned back to the study. "After you get settle come see me in the study." he said before he walked through the doorway.

Elizabeth gave the same quick nod she had at the door before going up the stairs. The house was very nice she had to admit, and she felt out of place almost, not living in a servants quarters. As she looked through the rooms she found none that would be unfit for a true woman, she did however find one very near to a stair case leading down to the kitchen. This would prove useful to her as she worked. Justly, she picked that small room to be hers. Elise placed her pack on the bed and began to unpack everything and place it effeciently in the room. Her clothes went into the wardrobe and her brushed on the table by the wash basin. The picture of her mother sat beside the bed on a table and she spread her blankets across the bed. Once this was done she tucked the pack under the bed and straightened herseld to go downstairs. Used to her servant ways she went down the stairs by the kitchen, and turned the halways until she found his study, open and giving her the view of a roaring fire. She walked closer to the door, standing just by the frame out of view and knocked, not wanting to enter even though the door was open.

Alex looked up from the paper he was holding. He stood up. "Come in." he said as he waited for her to come in.

she stepped quietly into the room, glancing only quickly as the flames of the fire flicked around the room, casting shadows every which way. The shadows even played on herself, flicking over her face and highlighting her dirty blonde hair. Elizabeth had never considered herself pretty, she had never gone to any length to make herself so. But perhaps, in that light, for just a moment she was stunning. These were of course not the thoughts on her mind though as she looked down at her folded hands as she stood before the desk.

He sat down when she came in. "There are somethings we need to discuss. I will need three meals a day or two if I have a full day of work. The rest you can figure out." he said as he looked at her. "I will give you three silver pieces a month and you can work your way up. You can have Sunday off or switch it out. Most of the time I will be out of town and be back late at night." he told her.

She nodded. " Very well sir, and are there any animals that will need taken care of, perhaps a dog or horses? " she asked, hoping that she would be able to take of animals as well. If there were, and she had only to cook for one man and herself, then perhaps the job would be almost a haven for her. For never had she earned 3 silver peices a month, and she could only work higher from there.

Alex nodded. "There is one black stallion in the stable and there is a large German Shepard. He stays with me most of the time but right now he is looking around the grounds." he said. He unlocked a drawer in the desk and took out her pay. He put it on the desk. "There is the first pay check."
((Let her ask him about him not having a wife or anything.))

Elizabeth held back her delight behind an indifferent stare. " Very well then, and when will the Mrs. be coming home? " she asked, having not before considered that the woman of the house may be simply away. That might change things, for women were hard to care for, men and animals were almost a joy, and men especially were funny at times. While she waited for his answer, she did not reach for the money simply looked past the man toward the wall.

He stood up and walked to the hearth. "There is no Mrs. " he said. He swung back around to her. "Who would lay in the arms of a lawman?" he asked her the same question that he asked himself.
