Marcus smiled at her " Then I shall be eagerly awaiting the dance." He said to her. He was glad the Alfred had stopped staring at him it was somewhat uncomfortable to have the fox staring at him even if it was just an animal. He sighed softly and looked at her.

A light blush came to Alexandra's cheeks, and she blushed even more out of embarrassment that he had made her flush so. " Do you go to balls often Mr. Marcus? " she asked, the flush slowly dieing away from her cheeks as she presented the new question. Something told her that he hadn't, stories about him and his cliff side home made her believe that even more. But perhaps, since he already had surprised her, he might surprise her again.

Marcus shook his head " I do not attend many balls but I have attended a few." He looked at her " But I do know how to dance." He said. He sighed softly and looked around somewhat bored.

Alfred stepped ahead of the two of them, not that Alexandra noticed much, for she was already using her quick tongue to reply to Marcus. " I shall have to see that for myself Mr. Marcus. " she said, and looked away down the path, only now noticing how Alfred had his ears pricked. It was then also that she heard the sound of hoof beats coming closer and closer.

Marcus looked at them both then he too heard the sound of hoofbeats. He rested his hand on the hilt of his sword and awaited the approach of the rider. He half expected it to be one of his men looking for him because some miss had come a calling.

Alexandra too had become slightly scared, but eased when she realized it was only her brother tom, riding upon her own mare. The young boy was riding fast, and when he stopped just near him the few leaves on the ground rose and fluttered in the air. " Alex, mother is in a fit at the house, you must come quickly. " the boy said, almost out of breath. But he quickly stood up tall when he saw the other man.
Alexandra nodded as she remembered herself. " Mr. Marcus, this is my brother Tomas Barstow. " she said, waving her hand between the two of them. " I am sorry, but as you have heard I must go, but I do look forward to the ball. " she said then walked quickly to the horse, reaching a foot up to the stirrup before pulling herself up to sit behind her bother, folding her skirts modestly.

Marcus nodded to Thomas and watched her mount the steed " I shall hope to see you again." He said to her. He looked at the fox and raised a questioning eyebrow wondering why he was not jumping upon the horse with her.

Alexandra nodded to him with a smile before her brother heeled the horse on. Alfred in turn spinning to run after them, more than a bit annoyed that he hadn't had robes to crawl into this time. All the same, he wasn't about to leave Alex to her own. So in a rush of wind the four all hurried off to the house, leaving Marcus in the middle of the path with nothing but his thoughts.
