Vaguely, he could feel the presence of his own kind. Somewhere far, deeper in the sea, they were hunting. He didn't see them, but he heard them, whistling and clicking and trailing the poor great whale and her calf. This time, when they sought warmer waters was by much the most dangerous part of the year for them, and since Edan was in his heart not their predator, he felt sadness for them. But, in another sense, he was glad for his distant kindred, bonded to him without blood, for they would not hunger.
The Sparen rocketed from the salty waters into the air in a showy breach, not that he'd anyone to impress. Life had bored him, and too long he had gone without shifting into his more majestic shape. He'd always been told as a child that if one didn't use their gift, it would be taken from them. Not that he was sure he believed the tales. But, he supposed, better safe than sorry. And was it not such a grand feeling to be the highest and mightiest?
With a glance back at the sandy beach of the rough cove he was in, Edan relinquished his thoughts to his instinct, however unnatural it was, and dove to submerge himself in the ocean's chilling vastness. Solitude in itself was fine, as it meant he wouldn't make a fool of himself, but the boy almost wished that there was someone else there, someone to be with besides his own consciousness.

The sun shining glint on the water was a view within itself, but the crashing waves and the sight of orca fins bobbing through the water was something that Cara had never before had the chance to witness. The young red phoenix flew carefully over the water, high enough to keep her delicate feathers from getting wet, but low enough to see the small fish diving and dashing just below the surface.
Alas though, these animals were not of her own kind, they did not have the minds that the Sparen possessed, the control over their form, the freedom of escape. Though in all truth, the alone time was not a trouble to Cara, the time to think was appreciated if nothing else. In fact a sigh, more like a lonesome coo, escaped the crooked beak as the sight of the cliffs came into view, their bottoms every now and then granted the space for a cove. No sooner had she felt the spray of the waves crashing against the rocks did she feel the presence of another Sparen.
Her piercing eyes quickly scanned the area for movement, but still she could see nothing but an orca, one she assumed to be from the pod she had passed not ten minutes ago, left behind. All the same her frustration and weary was answered with nothing, and a piercing call escaped her beak again, as if daring anyone to prove their location.

With a twisting motion, Edan pulled his rounded head out of the water. Even the great hunter had to breathe on occasion. Just as he did, one of those dratted shore-birds let loose a terrifying screech. Why must nature insist on rattling his peace when he was masquerading as one of her own? He beat at the sea with his flukes and pushed further above the water, so he could see where the annoyance was. Almost immediately, his vision graced upon a fiery thing, larger than any gull had the right to be. Not a gull after all, he decided, but another Sparen. One with a Phoenix form. To answer its cry, he dove beneath the the breaking waves again, and slapped down on the surface wildly with his tail. Then, he shot over to the Phoenix, and retracted back to a human shape.
"Ay! Can we get somewhere where I can stand?" Edan, now human (in appearance), kicked fiercely at the water. Why must staying afloat be so much harder in his born-in shape? Anyhow, he hoped that by getting the other Sparen to roost comfortably, he might see who it was.

When a great spray of water surged from the ocean Cara had to dart quickly into the air. More than a little annoyed with herself for coming to this place she flapped her wings as roughly as she could, though her show was wasted. However, she had managed to get herself high into the air, and now as her sensitive ears were filled with the sound of a voice she made preparation for her decent.
In but a second her fiery wings tilted and she angled herself to the water, with another tilt she angled to graze just above the water, where she was able to spot a human. Where he had come from she did not know. Though, when she took the time to notice his closeness to the spot she had seen the orca, she presumed that he had been the Sparen she had sensed.
Cara flapped her wings carefully to stay aloft just above him, even more carefully she lowered herself closer to him, clicking her beak and doing to her best to get him to look at her taloned claws. He seemed to be struggling in the water, something she found more than a bit ironic, but all the same if he grabbed onto her she would be able to lift him above the cliffs where they might rest a moment.

Edan snorted at the hovering reddish bird, a feat that, along with a wave of briny water, made him choke on a mouthful of liquid. Hacking, he sunk below the water to rest, then resumed treading water. It was obvious from the way the phoenix Sparen was dipping and clacking that it thought he needed assistance. "Y'know, I can swim just fine. It's floating I've got trouble with!" But, the boy jumped out of the ocean to his waist, and clung to the help offered him. "I'm ready, if you are."
OOC: Haha, he's just like Caroline! Sorry for the shortliness, I'm museless.

Cara was still struggling slightly with herself, rising and falling with the waves in her attempt to stay close to him. Her stuggle was nearly ceased when she heard his words, for she almost had the nerve to take flight and leave him there to climb the cliffs himself. But alas, the hands surged from the water to grasp onto her legs before she had the opportunity to do so. When she felt him lash on she almost immediatly shot into the sky, more than eager to get away from the spray of the water which irrotated her wings so.
Once in the air she felt again at home, shifting her wings against the air to balance the weight she now carried though it was not hard for her pheonix wings to bare. With little time, far less than it would take to climb the face of the cliff, Cara and her extra weight crested the top of the cliffs and she began to desend to put him down. It was again a time of hovering as she slowly dropped until she could feel some of his weight taken by the ground. Then, all she had to do was wait for the ungrateful fool to let go.
(( Yours fine! Luffs ya anyway.))

((Ungrateful fool, now isn't that a little harsh? XD))
Edan simply watched the waves, topped elegantly with white foam, as the phoenix pulled him from the waves. The fresh breeze chilled him thoroughly, bitter in the end of the bleakest season, one not long past. Being in sodden clothes wasn't the least of his uncomfort, though. Being so high above the water, swaying in the air ever so slightly, was quite unnerving. Not that he would tell anyone that. He simply bit his lip and looked straight out until he found himself over solid land once again.
The boy felt his toes brush against the dirt, and immediately dropped his hands. His gaze wandered to the fiery bird again, and he watched its wings beat rhythmically: up and down, up and down, up and down. "Doesn't it tire you out, all that flapping? I'm glad I'm not any sort of bird. It's so much more fun to dive an' swim." Edan flopped down into the sea grass, poking at a patch of the stuff, stiff and yellow, with slightly serrated edges.

(( Hey, she said it, not me. ))
With the weight lifted from her talons Cara's flight became much easier, if not short lived. For no sooner had the boy began to speak did she land to the ground and begin her transformation back into a human, in which she wore her normal school dress. She shook out the skirt, straightening its wrinkles and creases so that it fell nicely with the hem touching the ground. Once that was done she turned her attention back to the boy, who seemed to be still ignoring the task that she had done for him. " On the contrary, the flight comes so natural and our bones are so light that the flapping and flapping is no matter. Plus as a phoenix, loads are nothing to bare. " she said referring to her ability to lift him, a growing human from the water without trouble.

The echoing shrieks of the swooping gulls and the thundering of the waves dashing themselves to spray on the stone of the cliff formed a fair sort of song as the Sparen standing in the swaying grasses glared down at Edan. However, rather than listen to her words, he enjoyed the sound of them being accompanied by nature while he bemusedly considered himself.
He imagined that he looked quite odd, sodden as he was, with the mop that he called hair plastered down to his head and neck, though the breeze had dried a few strands along the top, which were now floating freely through the air. The sun was baking into the earth, and, in turn, him, and he imagined for a short time that he might actually tan, before he returned to reality and wondered how badly reddened his skin would be come the end of the day.
The red-headed boy shrugged off this dainty girl's explanation, and her pride over her form. "Well, I guess I owe my thanks. If you need someone who can swim faster or dive deeper than yourself, you can call on me." Edan drew his hands up behind his head, and pulled himself up enough to see the girl, rather than the sluggish clouds that spotted the sky.
"So, would my lovely savior of the day care to grace me with her name?" A spark lit his golden-green eyes, and a silly grin overcame face.

When once again in her human form Cara could now enjoy the sea, instead of hatefully scorn the sea for threatening her wondrous flight. No, instead now, as she seated herself among the tall grasses that carpeted the cliff, she could enjoy the smell of the salty spray. Caused by the rhythmic crashing of the waves upon the sharp rocks and the gentle whoosh of the sea breeze, running its hand over the grasses. yes, now she could enjoy all of this, take it in for all its beauty. Cara closed her eyes and breathed in the sweet air, only to have her moment of escape ended by the sound of the boy's voice. Her eyes flashed open and she again looked at her charge.
She nodded slightly to herself, for though she was granted the pleasure of air in her sparen form, her human form could only dive as deep as her lungs and legs would allow. " Indeed, I shall have to take you up on that sometime. " she said, interjecting in his pause before he spoke again. Though when she spoke again his words were met with a slight blush of her cheeks, for she was not used to be complemented, let alone by a boy. It didn't help that she was shy already, though she had let her tongue slip before. " My name is Cara, might I know yours as well? " she asked, tentatively, for some had no name to give when asked, as she did when asked of her mother.
((Ha ha, Mrs. Allen's whooshes!))

"Well, I guess you might.... If I feel up to telling you!" Edan's grin grew even more toothy, if that was possible, as he joked with the girl. He paused for a minute to seem like he meant it, observing his arms while he did. He was turning pink already. But staying indoors was too great a price to pay for a break from the irritation of sun-hot shoulders and face. Cara, he thought, was lucky to be a shade where the light didn't bother. And flushing didn't show. The girl's momentary embarassment was almost imperceptible, or at least to Edan, who hadn't been watching for it. Finally, rather than tease her any longer, the red-head said, "I'm Edan. Edan Torren. Pleased to meet you!"
Though he was almost dry, the Sparen would have preferred to stay wet. Now his skin was sticky from the salt, and in being so, itchy. But, he ignored it, and instead focused on Cara. "If you don't much like the water when you're shape-changed, then what brings you to the sea? I'm here because there's not much else I can go to swim. Least, not like my other self. The loch's fine, but it's not the same." Edan shifted slightly, propping himself up on his elbows and lower arms.

When, with all the sitting they were doing, Cara's (cough cough) behind became sore she shifted herself and moved to lay on her stomach, her elbows propping her up as she fingers picked a few blades of grass and began to twist them, braiding them to a fro into a woven pattern as she listened to the boy. " Well then Edan, I had been exploring an island not far from here, and was on my way back up when I saw you, well the animagous of you, in the water. Then you transformed into a human and I figure I should help you up the cliffs. " she said all the while never loosing a movement in her weaving. Though in her mind she did wonder, if such a boy was off swimming in the loch, then why hadn't she seen him? Perhaps it was simply because no one wanted to talk to the daughter of a traitor, but all the same, there was no point in bringing that up now, not when she had a potential friend.

((Wow, I braid grass when I'm bored, too!)) ((I was just watching the Rascal Flatts What Hurts The Most video, and it was soooo sad! I cried! D=))
Edan swirled himself around, swinging his legs out behind him so that he, too was positioned on his stomach. He twined his fingers together, then propped his chin on them, gazing on as Cara's steady hands brought the grasses in and out, weaving them into a golden plait. His hazel gaze rose to rest on the girl's face. "Island? What's it like?"

When the end of the blades had come into her fingers Cara pulled more, and carefully weaved the new into the old to continue to the braid. But soon, she could feel that the boy was watching her intently, which yet again maid her cheeks flush with pink. Her hazel eyes glanced up at his a moment, interested in his intrigue about the island, but then quick as a dart she returned them to the braid. " Well, it was rather rocky, many cliff and hills. So there was not much green there, only a few patches of grass and some berry bushes. Though there was a rather large tree there, on the highest cliff. " she said a slight laugh coming into her voice. " Actually it looked like an orca, trying to dive into the water but bound to the ground by its fin, or in this case roots. " she said before again pulling come more blades to continue the weave of gold.

"Well, I might just have to go see this tree! And I'll collect some berries to make a pie, while I'm there." Edan smiled yet again, and said, very softly, "Don't tell anyone, but I fancy myself a fair good baker!" He commenced to grin. It took a lot to wipe the slightly ironic, yet still pleasant look from his face. The boy again shifted among the grasses, this time moving to sit with his legs crossed. He simply couldn't stay still for very long.
The Sparen leaned forward to pluck a blade of the golden matter, and proceeded to swirl it aimlessly between his thumb and his forefinger. After a few rotations, he brought it up to swirl under his nose, just tickling the tip against the under side. The tickling brought about a resounding sneeze from Edan, but he still grinning like a fool. Tired of his amusement, he stuck the bit of plant into his muddy hair. Easily amused was the essence of the boy.
